Why focus on the paper & pencil test?

Parents and Students Please Take Note

As of April 2025, the online ACT® test and the paper/pencil ACT® test will actually be DIFFERENT versions of the test. When deciding ONLINE vs PAPER/PENCIL In the past it only came down to personal preference, but now the online test will only be offered in the new adjusted format (see details here). At first glance, many people find the NEW version more appealing, but TorchPrep STRONGLY suggests students take advantage of the paper/pencil version for April, June, and July tests. These test dates will be the LAST opportunities for students to take the test that they’ve become acquainted with through prep materials, practice tests, and actual previous ACT® test dates.

Why focus on paper/pencil?

Decades of practice materials are available for the paper/pencil version
VERY few practice materials are available for the new online test
Every ACT® test that students have taken has been the previous version (even if they’ve taken a previous online test)
In September, the paper/pencil test will be shifting as well, so these are the final opportunities to see the version we’re all comfortable with

The ACT® will continue to make more practice materials available for the new version of the test, but until then we encourage you to register for the PAPER/PENCIL version through the summer of 2025.
